Sam Rutega, the foundation chairman, described the offer as the largest contribution from the private sector towards education.

“We will be proud once again to make available over sh400m to Ugandan students in what is the largest single annual donation from the private sector towards education,” Rutega said.

“This fund will provide an excellent opportunity for us to educate students who might otherwise not been able to complete their studies due to lack of funds.

“We are confident that the candidates who meet the criteria will benefit from their studies and make useful and productive contributions to Ugandan society.”

Up to 75% of the scholarships would be offered to undergraduate students, while 25% would go for postgraduate courses, Rutega added. “The assistance is restricted to official tuition fees only and the selection of candidates is based on merit, competence and ability of the candidates, the financial status of the parents/guardians or the recipient and the the nature and availability of the courses desired,” he added.

Pratap Madhvani, one of the trustees said: “The Madhvani Group has a long history in the field of education.

“It is our firm belief that we must strengthen our country’s future through education.” and it with this in mind that the foundation continues to avail this significant amount of money each yea.”
