Muhammed Baswale Kezaala, who is campaigning for a city status for the municipality, was speaking last wek at the town hall. “Opportunities are coming. A $5m (sh8.5) modern recreational centre will be set up while three universities are expected to open in the near future.”

Pulkol tips on foiling rustling
KAMPALA - The Government should not exclude the Karimojong council of elders in efforts to prevent cattle rustling and illegal possession of firearms, former spy chief David Pulkol has said. “The elders have information on which ethnic groups are going to raid who and when the raids would happen,” he said on Tuesday during a public debate at Makerere University. Pulkol is also a former MP for Matheniko county in Moroto district and a minister.

Anti-malaria effort in Teso
KAMPALA - The malaria burden in Teso region could reduce with a new initiative. Pilgrim Uganda, a Christian NGO, is committed to fighting the deadly disease in the region. It will launch a $5m (sh8.5b) ‘Move on malaria’ project on April 12 in Soroti. The project will run for three years. We shall give out mosquito nets and malaria drugs to households,” said Betty Esenu, the programme manager.

HIV-positive people aided

KATAKWI - Groups of people living with HIV/AIDS in Katakwi and Mbale districts have received seven new motorcycles and sh43m from the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Uganda. Sam Wambaka, an official, handed over the cheques and bikes at separate events in the two districts. He said it was a new way of aiding the people living positively.
