THERE is a new kind of diagnosis and treatment that may save you from the costly charges of X-rays, blood testing and scanning. It is known as reflexology. It involves massage on reflex points on the surface of the feet and hands.

It is believed to have started during the times of ancient Egyptian empire. It is practiced in Egypt, China, Germany and some European countries.

According to Sylvester Nsabimana, a specialist in reflexology at Health is Wealth, a herbal research clinic in Busega, when a certain point on the foot is pressed and the patient feels pain, it means that the connectivity part of that point has a problem or is about to develop a problem.

Nsabimana says all the nerves in the body run directly to the feet and hands. “Feet and hands are a mirror of the body and the reflex points accurately reflect the physical and mental health of an individual,” he said.

As the reflex points are massaged, the body’s natural recuperative abilities are stimulated, so that any ailments can be alleviated, Nsabimana said.
Although both feet and hands can be used, professional reflexologists prefer feet because they are considered sensitive to treatment.

Nsabimana says foot reflexology can cleanse the body of toxins, increase blood circulation, assist in weight loss, and improve the health of organs throughout the body.

The benefits include dissipating energy blockages, flushing away physical toxins and other emotional blockages and restoring optimum health and inner peace.

“It is advisable to try it except if you have diabetes, are in the first quarter of pregnancy, are under the influence of drugs and have contagious conditions such as flu,” he noted.

Reflexology and medicines work well together according to medical workers.
At Health is Wealth clinic, both diagnosis and treatment require sh3,000.
