LANGE Gunter, a German international athletics instructor, has cautioned athletes and coaches against indulging in doping or using drugs.

He reminded the 35 coaches from northern Uganda, assembled in Gulu for a level I coaching course, that doping is a bad practice that has led several athletes into cheating. He warned the coaches not to expose Ugandan athletes to drugs.

“Some athletes, especially at international level, have been proved to have cheated by using drugs. This is extremely bad. It is cheating that should never be allowed and encouraged at any level”, said Gunter at the Pece War Memorial stadium.

The training was organised by the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) in conjunction with the International Olympics Committee (IOC). The participants are mainly primary and secondary school teachers.

However, Pader, Amuru and districts from the Lango sub-region skipped the two-week Level One coaching course.

UAF’s vice president and also the course’s technical director, Peter Okot-Omony assisted the German expert at the training.

Omwony urged the participants to utilise the knowledge acquired at the training in their localities.
