A Government directory will soon be availed to allow easy access of information to the public, the information minister, Kirunda Kivejinja, has said.

Closing a two-day workshop on the Access to Information Act at Statistics House, Kivejinja said his ministry would be responsible for implementing the Act.

“I will push for a statutory instrument to be gazetted for implementation because we all need to access information,” he said.

Kivejinja urged all ministries and public bodies to immediately recruit information officers to implement the Act.

The director for information, Kagole Kivumbi, said the two-day workshop was geared towards scrutinising the regulations regarding the draft report of the 2005 Act.

“It is a right for members of the public to access any information in your possession. Failure to abide may lead you to court, jail or a hefty fine,” he told participants.
