FARMERS in Maziba and Kamwezi sub-counties in Kabale district have petitioned the Government to help them restrain neighbouring livestock keepers from grazing on their crops.

The LC3 chairperson for Maziba, Edison Tumuhimbise, and Robert Mbabazi for Kamwezi handed over the petition to the resident district commissioner (RDC), Cox Nyakairu, during consultative meetings at their sub-county headquarters on Friday.

Residents complained that last month, cattle grazers from Rwanda invade their gardens with animals that eat their crops and then retreat.

Nyakairu said the reports would be investigated and the Police would arrest the culprits.

He added that the complaint would be discussed during the forthcoming border security meeting between Rwanda and Ugandan officials.

Nyakairu warned residents against attacking the Rwandan cattle keepers.
“You must not take the law in your hands. Diplomatic means and security agencies can help resolve this matter,” Nyakairu said.

The RDC added that Rwandans who enter Uganda without valid travel documents would be arrested.
