<b>Suspects flee from court </b><br>ENTEBBE-Policemen at the magistrate’s court on Friday had to run after three suspects who fled after learning that they were about to be arrested for missing court sessions twice.

ENTEBBE-Policemen at the magistrate’s court on Friday had to run after three suspects who fled after learning that they were about to be arrested for missing court sessions twice. Naome Matovu, Augustine Mukasa and Joseph Lule, all of Mpala village in Katabi sub-county, took off when the Chief Magistrate, Godfrey Opifeni, issued their arrest warrants.They were accused of damaging David Muwanga’s vehicles and assaulting him on October 16, 2007. They denied the charges and were remanded in Kigo Prison.

Rakai creates sub-county
RAKAI-The district council on Friday resolved to create a new sub-county, Kiziba, out of Kyarurangira. The LC5 chairman, Vincent Ssemakula, said Kyarurangira was big with a population over 30,000 people and three Grade Two health centers. The council also introduced a new tax. Commercial vehicles ferrying matooke and logs will be charged sh10,000, while those taking cattle will pay sh20,000.

District gets AIDS funds
KALANGALA-Three community-based groups have received sh87m from the International HIV/AIDS Alliance and the United States Agency for International Development. The money will be used to sensitise the masses about the scourge. The beneficiaries are Bujumba Tusitukirewamu, Semawondo and Bukasa Mpaawo Atalikaaba AIDS groups. Alliance finance manager Ivan Byamukama, handed over the cheques to the LC5 chairman, Daniel Kikoola, on Wednesday.

One killed at land meeting
KAYUNGA-A 65-year-old woman was killed during a meeting to resolve a land wrangle on Friday. Night Ganyana of Namutya village in Busaana sub-county was reportedly hacked to death by Damiano Mwanje. Ganyana accused Mwanje of grabbing part of her land. Mwanje, who claimed to be the owner of the two-acre piece, pounced on Ganyana with a panga, residents who attended the meeting told the Police. Mwanje is being detained at Kayunga Police Station.
