UGANDAN international David Obua looks set to leave Kaizer Chiefs at the end of this season. The South African giants do not intend to renew the Cranes’ midfielder’s three-year contract that expires in the summer.

Obua’s future at Chiefs depended on whether the club would part ways with the club’s current coach Muhsin Ertugral.

However, according to South Africa’s Kickoff magazine, the Turkish coach has been given the green light to plunge into the market to beef up the club’s squad for next season — meaning his stay is guaranteed.

“I have been in close communication with the chairman on a regular basis and I believe that my strategic input and vision is being listened too,” said Ertugral.
Ertugral’s chief priorities would be bringing in a central defender, a playmaker and a quality striker. “We need to find the answer to our attack problem in the midfield,” he said.

Obua’s relationship with Ertugral has been strained for much of the current season. Ertugral dropped Obua on March 1, after fluffing a late penalty that could have guaranteed victory for Chiefs during their 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town.
The Cranes’ star has been deprived of competitive football for two months, the side effects evident when Obua struggled in Uganda’s 1-1 friendly with Libya.

Obua had grown frustrated at being played second fiddle to South African midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.
The developments do not help Cranes’ cause with just three weeks left before Uganda engages Niger in a 2010 World Cup qualifier.

Obua was Uganda’s pillar in the last campaign, having finished Africa’s joint top scorer with five goals.

Meanwhile, Swalley Kenyi adds that sports medicine official James Sekajugo, FUFAs vice president technical Asuman Lubowa, Justus Mugisha and Patrick Ogwel are among Ugandan officials appointed on different committees of the regional football governing body CECAFA.

Former CECAFA boss Denis Obua joins his predecessor segwanga Musisi as honorary member of the association.
