THE Police have received sh852m from the European Commission for capacity building and human rights training. Over 500 former local administration unit (LDU), commanders, special Police constables and senior officers in the force will be trained, Asan Kasingye, the Police spokesman, told journalists on Friday.

He said the training of LDUs, who were recently integrated into the force, would start from the central region and then move to the north, which has the highest number of complaints against the special Police constables.

Before addressing the press, Kasingye attended a workshop at which the work of the Police in the north was evaluated. The implementation of the emergency action plan on the peaceful resettlement of the internally displaced people was also discussed.

“We have achieved 80% of our objectives except the reactivation of sub-county security committees,” he said. Local leaders were concerned that sub-county Police posts were being managed by officers at the rank of inspector or assistant inspector of Police.

Instead of non-commissioned officers. They also asked the Police to provide dogs and the fire brigade.
