THE Police in Wandegeya on Wednesday night arrested 34 suspected criminals in an effort to contain the wave of crime that has hit the city in recent weeks.

The Kampala Extra police spokesman, Simeo Nsubuga announced that the police had resumed operations against criminals after receiving many complaints over house breaking; pick pocketing, robbery, marijuana smoking and other crimes.

He said that 76 had been arrested in Katwe the previous day and produced in court in Makindye the following day.

“We have resumed operations in Kampala, especially in black spot areas,” he said. The areas affected include Katanga, Bwaise II, Kalerwe, Old Mulago and Katanga.

“We are dealing with a dangerous group and majority of them smoke marijuana, move with weapons like knives and other tools they use to disable their victims,” Nsubuga said.

He appealed to local leaders to cooperate with authorities to eliminate wrong elements from the society.
