RAINBOW International School and communities residing along Lukuli-Nanganda Road, in Makindye Division have decried the bad state of the road.

Residents say the road hinders business in the area. The school administration has been managing the road for the past five years after Kampala City Council failed to respond to their pleas.

The school public relations officer, Myfanwy Bolingbroke, says the school has spent about sh150m in the past five years to maintain the road. Bolingbroke says the increasing rains have made the road impassable.

She says although it is a public road, it is repaired, graded and maintained by the school, to ensure safety of the children.
“The road is of great benefit to the public because it forms a major link between the Gaba Road and the Konge – Makindye Roads,” she says.

Rainbow International School is a leading international school, offering British curriculum to more than 750 students. Despite being one of the highest taxpayers, KCC has not shown a sympathetic understanding of the school and the community.

Susan Kataike, the public relations officer in the works ministry, said the road was a responsibility of Makindye Division.
