Ugandans will soon get land titles for sh22,000 under a government strategy to improve land management. Under the systematic demarcation of land as the project in known, lawful and bonafide occupants in the pilot parishes will get the certificates.

Ugandans will soon get land titles for sh22,000 under a government strategy to improve land management. Under the systematic demarcation of land as the project in known, lawful and bonafide occupants in the pilot parishes will get the certificates.
Lands state minister Dr. Kasirivu Atwooki said this on Monday while addressing residents of Kasingo in Bwanswa sub-county, Kibaale district where the scheme will be piloted.
“The Government wants to prevent land conflicts. The system will spread to other parts of the country when funds are available,†Kasirivu said.
The Government, he explained, would meet the survey costs as it did in Mbale and Iganga districts.
Systematic demarcation is cheaper than the sporadic type the minister said. While an individual spends about sh2m for a land title, the Government needs only sh100,000.
Kasirivu said his ministry was finalising the land fund regulations spelling out how the paid-up titles would be acquired.
A beneficiary should have lived on the land for at least 12 years before the 1995 Constitution.
The minister said land committees would be trained to resolve disagreements. Kibaale residents said they would support the system which is also being implemented in Mbale, Iganga, Soroti and Ntungamo.
