Polygamy is to blame for the increasing cases of domestic violence, according to the Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nathan Kyamanywa.

“Polygamous families and excessive drinking escalate conflicts in homes. Some men beat their wives because of the influence of alcohol. But if Christians adhere to the fundamental principles of Christianity, domestic violence will end,” Kyamanywa said on Wednesday.

This was during a function at which over 30 Christians were confirmed at St. Paul Kabuga Church of Uganda in Muhorro sub-county, Kibaale district.

The bishop urged Christians to engage in income-generating activities like tree planting, poultry and commercial agriculture to fight poverty.

Bishop Kyamanywa also advised residents to avoid criminal activities, which could lead them into trouble.
