UGANDANS should not abandon agriculture because of the expected revenues from oil, investment state minister, Ssemakua Kiwanuka, has advised.
He said the economy cannot thrive without a well planned agricultural sector, which provides enough food at lower prices.
“African countries, which become mineral-rich, tend to abandon agriculture. With food shortages and soaring foodstuff prices, must we become perpetual food importers?â€
Jessica Eriyo, the environment state minister, said there was need to conserve biodiversity in areas where oil and gas exploration and production are taking place.
“The oil discovered is along Lake Albert and River Nile region and protected areas,†she said.
