SENIOR Forum for Democratic Change party officials, Jack Sabiiti and Winnie Byanyima, are to explain their failure to apologise to the judges they admitted to have defamed.

Lawyers representing Deputy Chief Justice Laetitia Mukasa-Kikonyogo and High Court judge Remmy Kasule have asked court to order the officials to explain themselves.

Sendege, Senyondo and Company Advocates last week filed the application in the High Court on behalf of the judges.

In 2006, Sabiiti, the national treasurer of the opposition party and Byanyima accused the judges of receiving bribes to keep FDC leader Dr. Kizza Besigye in jail over charges of treason.

Kikonyogo and Kasule later sued the officials.

But before the case could be heard, Byanyima and Sabiiti admitted that they had acted on false information from a source.

By consent of all the parties, the court ordered them to pay damages and legal costs to the judges.

The officials were also ordered to apologise to the judges in both the local and international media.

They paid the damages and costs but are yet to apologise. Court is yet to fix a date to hear the application.
