RADIOS should spend more time discussing economic issues instead of abusing the President and talking politics, Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi has said, reports Sarah Muwanga.

“Let’s talk about economic issues because that is where we earn a living. Our people are going hungry and our coffee is being wiped out by wilt. We should use radio to find solutions to these problems rather than abusing each other and inciting people.”

Nsibambi made the remarks recently while opening the 3rd National Coffee Farmer’s Convention at Namboole stadium in Wakiso.

“It is natural and acceptable for someone to come out and say he does not agree with the President on a certain issue. You can also say I do not agree with a certain article. But do not abuse or incite the public,” Nsibambi said.

He assured the coffee farmers that the Government would facilitate them.

Nsibambi directed the agriculture ministry to design a comprehensive policy on coffee development.

The farmers’ chairman, Gerald Sendaula, said they were adding value to the product and marketing their coffee directly to exporters.
