The last time they graced the Unplugged Night was as back-up for Jose Chameleone, they were not the prized assets then. On Thursday, Mowzey Radio and Weasel attracted a record crowd in the history of Club Silk Unplugged nights. Interestingly, each put on a punching glove as if to showcase they are to punch their way to the top.

They ‘punched’ the fans to pulp. Ladies swooned and men nodded in approval. If only there was the space to dance!

It was a one-hour non-stop performance that built on suspense. At one point, they took us to the old school, with Mowzey singing his breakthrough song Jennifer while Weasel sang Doreen. All the while, the crowd begged for Zuena, the song currently dominating radio airwaves.

It was the usual shrieks sang to Ngamba, Lwaki Onumya, Nakudata, Usiende and Nakutamani.

However, Weasel’s voice often veered off and the machines were not what we have since become accustomed to at the unplugged sessions. They made the Jeckaki Band look like amateurs.

Earlier on, Benon, Vampino and Maurice Hasa had psyched the crowd with energetic performances you thought they merited unplugged sessions of their own. Red Banton, dressed in white, took the occasion to announce he was no longer Red, but Tony Banton.

Apparently, the Red in his name scared off fans. Tony Banton duly sampled a new song, which was wildly cheered.
