THREE pupils were killed
instantly when lightning struck the veranda on which they were sheltering.

Olivia Nalutaaya (P5), Tonny Sekabunga (P4) and Norah Naggita (P6), all pupils of Bukasa Primary School in Kyamuswa subcounty, Kalangala district, were part of a large group of pupils who sought shelter on the veranda during a break-time downpour on Thursday morning.

Southern Regional Police Commander Andrew Sorowen said the Police had not yet inspected the scene due to the difficulties in transportation to the islands.

In September last year, lightning struck 16 children, killing seven of them instantly in Bujugu Primary School in Hoima district.

Tragedy again struck in February this year when two S3 students died instantly after they were struck by lightning at Midland High school in Bushenyi, during a heavy downpour.

On July 14, 20-year-old Kadir Kakande died when lightning struck him moments before a downpour in Kampala.

Lillian Nanyonjo, 15, a student of St. John SS in Bweyogerere, collapsed as the lightning scorched a two-bedroom house where
she sat, burning all her property.
