TEACHERS who dodge lessons will be sacked. The warning was made by the Jinja district education officer, Abraham Were, at the opening of a one-day training workshop at Budondo Primary School in Kagoma county last week.

“We have 86 primary schools in Jinja district and 45 of them are in kagoma yet the county gets the lowest number of pupils with first grades,” Were said.

He said lazy teachers and those who dodge teaching would not be promoted.

Were also warned teachers against looking down upon head teachers, adding that two teachers were suspended in Busedde sub-county over leading a strike because they did not want the head teacher who reported one of them for defiling a pupil.
Were attributed the poor performance in Kagoma to teachers who dodge classes.

He said in most schools, pupils end the day without studying. Kagoma MP Frederick Nkaayi urged teachers to be good time managers. He said many factors had led to the poor performance of teachers. The factors include lack of self-respect, he said.

The training was sponsored by the MP in partnership with the Christian Children’s Fund. It was facilitated by officials from the Leadership Education Uganda, an NGO.

The teachers were trained in leadership principles and how to inspire pupils to become leaders.
