Bududa passes sh9b budget
BUDUDA-The district has approved a sh9b budget for this financial year, showing an increment of sh3b from that of last year. Finance secretary Patrick Wanditi said the district expected to raise sh236m locally, sh7b from grants and sh640m from donors. The education department had the lion’s share of sh3b. It was followed by health with sh1.6b, while finance got sh1b. Last year, Wanditi said, the district expected to get sh194m from graduated tax compensation and local revenue but only sh150m was realised. He urged leaders to encourage residents to embrace government programmes aimed at improving their welfare.

Bugembe to get safe water
JINJA-The Lake Victoria Region Water and Sanitation Initiative has undertaken a multi-million project to improve sanitation and water supply in Bugembe town council. The technical adviser, James Mbabaali Lumbuye, noted that despite the high population, the area lacked proper sanitation and a drainage and solid waste management system. Lumbuye said they had developed similar programmes in Mutukula in Rakai and Nyendo in Masaka district. He added that their efforts were aimed at preventing slums in the area. A 20-member committee was appointed to work with the technical staff. Councillors commended the initiative and pledged to cooperate with the team. They noted that the project was in line with the millennium development goals
