FUFA has suspended centre referee Liburd Masembe and assistants Roberto Bukenya and Titus Opio for six months effective last Tuesday.

The punishment follows the referees' decision to allow a dismissed Boroboro player Dan Kibirango to be substituted in their Super League match with Iganga.

The federation publicist Rogers Mulindwa announced the punishment at the PostBank FUFA weekly press conference in Kampala yesterday.

In a letter signed by FUFA referees’ standing committee secretary Yusuf Kamulegeya, Mulindwa said that the trio was accused of lack of concentration during the match at Saza grounds last week.

During the match, Masembe dismissed Kibirango after a second bookable offense but inexplicably allowed Alfred Akena, who was waiting at the touchline to substitute him.

It is not clear whether the suspension will affect Bukenya’s direct appointments from the world governing body, FIFA, to officiate international matches.

Bukenya left for Cameroon this morning where he is expected to officiate the CAF Champions League match between Cotton Sport and Enyimba of Nigeria this weekend.

Masembe was last season suspended for six months after he recalled Bunamwaya player Tonny Odur soon after he had dismissed the striker.

Meanwhile, FUFA will hear Iganga’s petition against Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC for fielding goalkeeper Abbey Dhaira who was serving a red card.
