Fuel reservoir work starts
TORORO - A demarcation of the route of the proposed 320km oil pipeline from Eldoret in Kenya to Jinja and Kampala started last week. The work, which is headed by Disan Kiguli from the Ministry of Energy is being done by Geomaps, a survey firm. Kiguli said construction would start in November and valuation was underway. He urged the community which would be affected by the work, to cooperate with the valuers. Kiguli said the affected people would be compensated and some be employed.

PWDs launch rights advocacy

KAPCHORWA - A one-year advocacy project on the rights of the disabled persons has been launched.Deputy resident district commissioner Eriamos Yanja Mujunga said Government recognised the rights of the disabled persons through laws put in place by Parliament and that is why they were supporting the project.
He thanked the Government of Finland and Abilis Foundation for funding the project.

Museveni advised

KAMPALA - Commissioner Mariam Wangadya has suggested that President Yoweri Museveni appoints only lawyers to the Uganda Human Rights Commission to provide quality services. She argued that it was unfair that the commission was given a wide mandate which had led to the overwhelming load of work. She was a presenting a paper on ‘UHRC’ .
