DEMOCRATIC Party (DP) President John Ssebaana Kizito has fired back at the chairman of the party, Prof. Joseph Mukiibi, and his deputy Hajji Ali Sserunjoji for refusing to leave their posts.

“We want to reaffirm to all our members that Mathias Nsubuga is our legitimate secretary general. At this time, Mukiibi and Sserunjoji are not recognised as our party officials and whatever they say is just verbal,” Ssebaana told journalists at the party’s headquarters in Kampala yesterday.

Last week, Ssebaana announced at the National Council (NC) meeting that Mukiibi and Sserunjoji had been suspended for absconding from the party’s activities.

He said the two would appear before the council on October 2, to explain their behaviour.

Mukiibi and Sserunjoji had earlier said the meeting held at Bukasa was illegal and had no powers to suspend them.
The party’s legal adviser, Elias Lukwago, said Members were notified of the meeting.
