THE Uganda Coffee Development Authority has launched a survey to establish the perceptions of coffee and non-consumers.

The coffee consumption perception survey would be carried out in five districts of Kampala, Mbarara, Jinja, Mbale and Lira, a UCDA statement has indicated.

According to preliminary results, the low consumption in the country is caused by high prices of quality coffee and because of health fears, the statement said.

“Almost 100% of the correspondents said quality coffee is too expensive hence hindering the growth of domestic coffee consumption in Uganda.”

Sixty-two percent of the respondents perceive coffee as an energy drink, the statement indicated.

It showed that 28% others think the low coffee consumption in the country is due to the fear that coffee is a health hazard. Meanwhile, farmers have been urged to form groups to earn better returns.
