MBALE Municipal Council has earmarked sh520m to tarmac 1.5km of Naboa Road in the town.

The municipal town clerk, Norbert Turyahikayo, said part of the funds received from the central government would be used to expand the drainage system, repair walkways and set up flower gardens along the road.

Turyahikayo noted that the existing tarmac roads in the town were constructed in 1978 and had always been patched up due to inadequate resources.

“That is why they have developed many potholes. The re-ocurrence of these potholes shortly after repair is not a sign of shoddy work but the expired roads,” Turyahikayo said.

He added that at the time of the construction, the roads were estimated to last for 10 years.

He said the six-month project was expected to end in January next year.
The town clerk added that more roads would be tarred when funds were realised.

He said the Uganda National Road Authority would repair Uhuru Drive, Bishop Wasike Road, Soroti, Bugwere and Kumi roads.
