HEAVY rains, which have made rural roads impassable, and the just-concluded Ramadhan season, have led to an increase in food prices, a weekly mini-survey has shown.

Trucks carrying food from the rural areas have got stuck due to the impassable roads. This has led to a reduction in supply, hence an increase in prices.

Traders said matooke, sweet potatoes and meat products (chicken, goat meat, beef and eggs) were affected by the rains.

Irish potatoes, millet grain, rice, turkey, fish, fruits and vegetables also recorded high prices.

According to a market report from Infotrade, Masaka is receiving heavy rains, a situation that is likely to reduce milk prices because there will be sufficient pasture for the cows. The milk costs sh800 per litre. In Kisoro, the price of cow peas has increased to sh1,600.
