MBARARA district Police chief Ivan Nkwasibwe has warned parents against commercialising defilement. He was on Monday addressing local leaders in Bugamba sub-county, Mbarara district.

Nkwasibwe is touring the district to sensitise people on crime, especially murder, defilement and robbery. Bugamba and Mwizi sub-county top the district in murder and mob justice.

Nkwasibwe said he was shocked to find out that some parents marry off defilement victims to get money when the cases are still in court.

“This must stop or else I will arrest the parents. That is commercialisation of defilement,” he said.

The local leaders reported that smoking opium and drinking alcohol was a big threat to the security and development of the area.

Nkwasibwe advised Bugamba local council to make bye-laws and activate its courts to fight the vices.
