THE Uganda National Expanded Programme for Immunisation (UNEPI) has launched a mass campaign to eliminate tetanus from five districts.

Pamela Zaninka, a UNEPI official, said the health ministry wants healthy mothers and children, which calls for the immunisation of all females in the ages of 13 to 49 years.

“The ministry has been doing this since 2000; all geared towards having a healthy nation,” she said.

Zaninka was recently speaking at the launch of the campaign at Bujuni Primary School in Kibaale district. She said for one to be completely immunised against tetanus, one must complete five rounds of immunisation.

The districts that at a high risk are Kibaale, Mubende, Mityana, Busia and Nakapiripiriti.

Tetanus affects mostly the newly born and mothers.

Meanwhile, the Kibaale district chairman, George Namyaka, said the Government is committed to improving the life of females.
