THE office of the President and the USAID-funded Transitional Initiative (OTI) are to spend about sh200m to rehabilitate the office of the Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC).

RDC Walter Ochora on Monday said officials from the President’s office and the municipal health inspector declared the building unsafe for human occupation.

Ochora, his deputy, the regional internal security officer, district internal security officer and the northern army spokesman, moved from the building to the RDC’s residence where they are currently operating.

The RDC said OTI would advertise for a contractor to rehabilitate the offices, adding that members of the district service commission, the Police crimes intelligence, the de-mining team and environment offices would have to evacuate the building and find temporary accomodation elsewhere.

“This is a very old building. According to the report I have, it was built in 1932.” Ochora revealed.

With the increasing rains, Ochora said the condition of the office is worsening.
