INVISIBLE Children, a non-government organisation working to rebuild the education infrastructure in the north, has commissioned a sh5.9b programme in the Acholi sub-region.

The launch of the school for school (S4S) programme took place on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu.

Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Technical drawing laboratories were officially handed over to the Government.

“Sustainable development is a community effort and we hope to send that message through this event,” Patrick Munduga, the S4S programme manager, said.

Invisible Children, with the assistance of students in America, has helped 11 secondary schools in Gulu, Pader and Amuru districts build structures and provide scholastic materals to schools.

The United States ambassador in Uganda, Steven Browning, said his Government had earmarked $163m for the region.

The Gulu district chairman, Norbert Mao, cautioned students against strikes that could destroy school property.
Education minister Geraldine Bitamazire urged students to work hard.
