THE Ssaabanyala-elect, Baker Kimeze, 36, has retired from the army in preparation for his coronation.

Kimeze has been serving in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and had been promoted from lieutenant to captain.

“I’m happy that my bosses responded positively to my retirement application. This is going to help me in taking up the leadership of the Banyala.

I could not violate the Constitution by taking up this role before retiring from the army,” Kimeze told journalists in Kayunga on Friday.
“The coronation ceremony will take place before the end of this year.

We expect it (ceremony) to be presided over by President Yoweri Museveni, who is yet to give us the date,” he added.

He vowed that nobody would block his coronation like it was with his late father, Nathan Mpagi.
Kimeze was elected by over 120 Banyala clan leaders to replace Mpagi who died of diabetes in August.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the Baluuli-Banyala cultural forum, Johnson Butamanya, said they had rejected the proposal by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi to give Baluuli more seats in the Mengo Lukiiko, saying this would not solve their problems.

“We cannot accept this offer because Buluuli is an independent kingdom like Buganda and the only option is to exchange ambassadors,” he said.
