AFRICA Online, a member of Telcom South Africa Group, has developed a technology to safeguard private and confidential data sent over the Internet, Joseph Barungi, the regional manager, has said.

Barungi said the Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology was designed to fight cyber crimes. “One can connect from his company network using a basic Internet connection and remain confident the data is secure,” he said.

Barungi was addressing of company representatives at Hotel Africana in Kampala on Monday.

He explained that the firm’s high speed Internet and data link with sister firms in Kenya and South Africa enables corporate clients reduce on data delays and enhance secure VPN connections across the borders.

“Mail management services like mail relay, mail anti-virus scanning, mail spam scanning and mail user management for any size of organisation can be managed by our solutions,” he said, adding that the it is be first of kind in Uganda.

He said the firm was rolling out a WiMAX- based communication platform to support voice-over Internet calls, Closed Circuit Television camera monitoring solutions for home and business users and high speed Internet access.
