PARLIAMENT will today hold a special session in honour of the fallen Isingiro Woman MP Vicky Kyaaka Kyokuhairwa.

According to spokesperson Helen Kaweesa, Kyokuhairwa’s body will lie in state at the Parliament at 11:00am, where mourners will pay their last tribute.

This will be after a requiem mass at the Christ the King Church in Kampala at 9:00am.

The special session will start at 2:00pm, after which, the body will be taken to her ancestral home in Isingiro district for burial.

Kyokuhairwa, with two other people, died on Friday in a car accident on the Kampala-Masaka highway.

The MP’s husband, Kyaaka, who was also injured in the accident, had just graduated from Nkozi University, and the family was returning home in Kampala.

The accident took place at Buwama, near the Equator.

Kyaaka, a veterinary doctor, was transferred from Nkozi University Hospital to Mulago Hospital.

Bukanga MP Nathan Byanyima, a friend of the late MP, said Kyaaka’s condition had improved.

Kaweesa described Kyokuhairwa as a humble woman, who debated women and children issues with a passion.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary public accounts committee has postponed its meeting with government accounting officers.

The vice-chairman, Ssebuliba Mutumba, said the meetings were postponed to enable the MPs travel to Isingiro for the burial.

“We can’t go on with meetings when we have lost a colleague. We will greatly miss her contribution,” he said.

The meetings are scheduled to resume next week.
