THE Somalis living in Uganda have been cautioned against being used by external forces to jeopardise the country’s security.

Robert Masolo, the External Security Organisation (ESO) chief urged the Somali leaders to ensure harmony among their communities for the country’s development and their general welfare.

“You should ensure that you are not diverted by negative forces to jeopardise security of the areas where you live,” said Masolo.

He was opening a meeting organised by the Office of the President to sensitise leaders of Somali communities living in various parts of the country.

Ambassador Sayid Ahmed Sheikh Dahir led a team of 35 Somali leaders from Kampala, Busia, Malaba, Nakivalle and education institutions to the one-day meeting held at the Metropole Hotel in Kololo on Saturday.

The chairperson of the Somali Community Association in Uganda (SCAU), Hussein Hassan Hariire, said as of 2006, there were over 14,000 Somalis in Uganda.
