DUNCAN Mugabe, capped a great week in West Africa on the tennis courts after storming the semi-finals of the Gabon F2 Futures in Libreville on Thursday.

The 18-year-old eased his way to the last four with a 6-4 6-3 victory over unseeded Frenchman Mathieu Goven to book his ticket for a titanic clash against top seed Kamil Capkovic from Slovakia.

It’s Mugabe’s best achievement since becoming a professional two months ago. He has played in six ITF futures tournaments before.

The Libreville tournament has 15,000(sh29.7m) in prize money and the Ugandan youngster could be guaranteed a cash prize in the region of $800(sh1.5m) to $900(sh1.7m) from this stage. Mugabe is expected back in Kampala to play in the ITF/East Africa 18 and Under tennis tournament as he bids farewell to the junior circuit.
