MUSLIM leaders across the country used the Idd al-Adha celebrations to urge the Government to take tough action against child sacrifice.

The Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, said: “It is unfair to spill human blood for the sake of wealth. In the Muslim faith, sacrifice of human beings is unacceptable. We strongly condemn such inhuman acts.”

Referring to the Koran, he said God was testing Ibraham when he asked him to sacrifice his son, Isaac.

“When the Almighty realised that Ibrahim truly loved him, he asked him to sacrifice an animal instead of his child. He was just testing his faith. We should then never sacrifice human beings, he told believers during prayers at Gadaffi National Mosque at Old Kampala yesterday.

The Idd al-Adha is a festival of commitment and obedience to Allah.

Mubajje, who led the prayers, called upon the Muslims to work together and desist from acts of violence.

There have been recent media reports of children sacrificed for ritual practices.

According to Police records, four children aged between 9-12 years were be-headed in 2007 and had their tongues, private parts and hearts cut out.

Since the beginning of the year, six children have been murdered, Three three people are being held in connection with the murders.

The Tabliq Muslim community leader, Sheikh Amiir Sulaiman Kakeeto, during prayers at Clock Tower’s playground, said: “The rate of child sacrifice is alarming. If the Government fails to act, the public may take the law in their hands to punish people sacrificing human beings,” he warned.

In Kibuli, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, while hosting Muslims at his home after prayers, asked the Government to institute an operation similar to Operation Wembly to track down witchdoctors engaged in ritual murders.
