Jinja-based businessman Abdul Samad has acquired a new sh70m Subaru for next year’s rally season.

Jinja-based businessman Abdul Samad has acquired a new sh70m Subaru for next year’s rally season.

He joins a long list of drivers who have taken advantage of the tax exemption on rally cars to get the latest machines. Ugandans are still way behind the Kenyans, who paraeded 30 Group N cars at the recent KCB Safari rally compared to two by Ugandans.

Uganda was represented by two drivers Emma Katto and Riyaz Kurji who had Subaru Impreza WRX STI N14 and N10 respectively.

Next season looks set to be very competitive as ‘Super Lady’ Susan Muwonge, former two-time national rally champion Ponsiano Lwakataka, upcoming youngster 19-year-old Shafiq Ssemujju, and newcomers Nasser Mutebi have acquired new Subarus.

Others are Uganda’s Africa Rally championship representatives Katto and Jas Mangat are upgrading to factory prepared Subaru Impreza WRX STI N15 and N12 respectively.

Samad is the latest driver to import a Subaru Impreza N8. He is set to test it at the Champion of Champion’s Sprint and Music Gala at Botanical Gardens on Boxing Day.

So far, 27 drivers have registered for 2008 season ender sprint. Deadline for entry is this weekend.
