CRICKET - Roger Mukasa continued to show mastery of the bat with 79 runs in the third national cricket team trial at Lugogo. The national team departs for Nairobi next week for warm-up matches ahead of the ICC Division One World Cricket league.

Crisis meet

BASKETBALL - The Basketball players Association led by Ronnie Kalule has called a crisis meeting to discuss the future of the sport. The meeting comes after the National Council of Sports blacklisted the basketball federation as one of the sports that has defaulted on the required basic standards.

Totos league
SOCCER - Over 20 boys and girls have registered for this year’s Totos league. The competition gets underway on February 6 with two afternoon matches being played every Tuesday at the Acorns school. The 2007 league is scheduled to start with friendly games before the actual competitive games kick off on February 13. “We expect more kids to join the 25 that have registered,” promotions officer Tom Ocamringa noted.

OLYMPICS - China’s emergence as a “sporting superstate” is frightening the rest of the world ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, a top British sports executive said Monday. “In sporting terms, actually, we’re all at war against China,” said British Olympic Association (BOA) chief executive Simon Clegg.
