Welcome to the new school year 2007! I am sure you have all returned to school determined to succeed.

Welcome to the new school year 2007! I am sure you have all returned to school determined to succeed.

Congratulations upon moving to a new (higher) class. Special congratulations and welcome to those who are starting PI, SI and later on S5.

I would also like to give a word of encouragement to those who are repeating classes.

Here are a few tips to enable you to succeed

-l Attend all lessons, listen and participate actively in class.

- Make sure you understand what is being taught. If in doubt, ask your teacher or colleagues.

-l Write notes.

-l Read through what you learnt later in the day. This will help you consolidate what was taught in class.

Make yourself a reading/study timetable, which includes all the subjects. Follow it but be flexible when circumstances necessitate a change. This way you will be up to date in all your work. It makes revision for tests at the end of the month, term or year much easier.

You will be in position to pass any surprise tests. Even if you fall sick before exams, and fail to revise well, you will be able to pass.

- Continuing students or pupils – give the new students or pupils a warm welcome. Make them settle down easily so that they feel at home. This will enable them to concentrate on their studies from the beginning.

Students keep bad memories of bullies and good memories of friendly schoolmates. Remember, it is a small round world – you always meet again!

- PI, SI: Some of you will find yourselves doing some tasks for the first time, for example cleaning up and washing clothes. Have a positive attitude. Tasks get easier with time.
