Probe KCC – Bwanika
KAMPALA - More Ugandans are coming in to suggest solutions to the mess in the Kampala City Council. Former presidential candidate Abed Bwanika has asked the Government to set up a commission to investigate the activities of the council. Addressing a press conference at Carol House on Saturday, Bwanika questioned the shoddy transactions and alteration of documents by KCC, regarding the sale of Nakasero market. “This unscrupulous deal raises questions on the integrity of the KCC leadership and their worthiness in view of the office they hold.” Bwanika also criticised the councillors for accepting Sebaggala’s deal of selling Nakasero market to Basajjabalaba.

MPs warn on Mabira Forest

KAMPALA – MPs have warned the Ministry of Water and Environment against giving Mabira Forest to Mehta Group, the owners of the Sugar Corporation of Uganda. Meeting the Minister for Water, Maria Mutagamba, on Thursday, the committee on natural resources vowed to join civil society organisations in fighting to retain the forest. The minister was appearing before the committee to brief MPs on the current status of the forest. Last year, Mehta Group requested the Government for 7,100 hectares of the forest reserve for increased sugarcane production.
