KAMPALA - Former Kyaddondo East MP Ssitenda Ssebalu must wait until 2011 if he is to recapture the seat from Sam Kalega Njuba. This follows a High Court ruling blocking him from seeking more time to serve a petition challenging Njuba’s election. Justice Eldard Mwangusya said the court is not mandated to extend the legal period of seven days in which a loser is supposed to serve a notice of petition to a winning candidate.

Two lecturers have gone to the High Court challenging the list of staff members drawn up by the administration for the election of heads of department and deans. Francis Baziraake, a senior lecturer and Swabri Ali Mukungu, an assistant lecturer, allege that the list included people who are not eligible to vote or to stand for offices under the universities and other tertiary Institutions Act. last year, lecturers laid down their tools demanding a pay rise.
