TWENTY-EIGHT students of Makerere University, who are suspected of engaging in examination malpractices have been summoned by the Faculty of Arts examinations committee.

The students, who are pursuing various courses, have been ordered to appear before the faculty’s examination committee on March 21.

According to a list pinned on the notice boards, the students carried illegal material into examination rooms.
Students are not supposed to carry their notes into examination rooms, according to the regulations, which are indicated on answer sheets.

Information from the institution also revealed that some copied their colleagues’ course work, which is also outlawed.

The committee, which is to sit next week, will make a decision on the students’ fate after listening to their defence.

The students may redo the course units or be sent away by the Senate, the highest decision-making body at the university, if their actions are extreme.

This comes after 87 students from various faculties were expelled for cheating in last semester’s examinations.

Meanwhile, 70 students, whose academic performance was unsatisfactory, are to repeat a whole academic year, The New Vision has learnt.

They are among second-year students pursuing degrees in Development studies, Urban Planning, Arts, Tourism, Mass Communication and Secretarial Studies.

A separate notice asked them not to continue with lectures.
