AMURU district NRM chairman Christopher Ojera has asked President Yoweri Museveni to intervene in a land wrangle between the communities of Pabbo and Amuru sub-counties and the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

In a February 28 letter, Ojera, who is also the Pabbo LC3 chairman, suggested that Museveni delegates officials from the lands ministry to demarcate the land.

Last year, residents of Pabbo clashed with those in Amuru over the same piece of land. They both claim ownership of the plot.

Amuru leaders accused their Pabbo counterparts of settling displaced persons on their land.

Early this month, the wildlife authority accused Amuru district local leaders of resettling displaced persons in the East Madi Game Reserve.

According to the authority’s spokesperson, Lillian Nsubuga, over 200 people have encroached on the game reserve in Apaa.

But Ojera claims the wildlife body wants to grab their land because Apaa is not part of the game reserve.

The Amuru LC5 councillor, Gilbert Olanya, said the boundary of the game reserve does not extend to Apaa and Omee as claimed, but ends at Kulo Coro, about 48 kms from Omee camp.
