COMMONWEALTH Boxing Council director Celestino Mindra is to start talks with the government for them to support Uganda’s bid to host a Commonwealth boxing championship fight in Kampala in November.

“I am going to meet government officials and hold talks on Uganda hosting a Commonwealth title fight together with a convention, as part of the CHOGM activities,” Mindra, a former CBC president said.

“It is an opportunity of a lifetime for Uganda and its professional boxers and also to the boxing promoters here.”

Uganda has nine boxers in the latest Commonwealth boxing ratings with Jackson “Action” Asiku, the featherweight champion who has to make his next defence in September.

The Commonwealth Boxing Council has backed Uganda’s bid to host a Commonwealth fight together with a convention, according to a statement from the council.

Uganda in November will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting which will see her majesty Queen Elizabeth of England, also head of the Commonwealth, attend the historic summit.
