A new air traffic control radar for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is to be commissioned by August.

Officials of the Civil Aviation Authority say the sh15.8b gadget is part of the sh76b expansion and renovation project that Entebbe International Airport is undergoing ahead of CHOGM.

A CHOGM inspection team recently toured the airport and said they were impressed with the developments.

According to the civil aviation chief, Ambrose Akandonda, all heads of State will land at the new terminal under construction. He said the works are expected to be complete by August 30.
“We are prepared to welcome all heads of State with all the honours befitting them.”

Other areas under renovation and expansion are the arrivals hall, customs and baggage reclaim area and the departure check-in area.

Thirteen new planned aircraft parking aprons and loading bridges are under construction. The airport will have five security watchtowers.
