SHELL Uganda has donated four wheelchairs to the casuality and spinal unit wards in Mulago Hospital.
This was at a function to mark the beginning of the road safety week yesterday.

Handing over the equipment, the sales manager, Edward Walugembe, said the donation was aimed at boosting the hospital’s ability to care for accident victims.

The week which is aimed at raising awareness on road safety will end on April 27.

“With only one surgeon, the ward is unable to urgently provide medical attention to casualities. This is because we lack the equipment and resources,” Jane Nakibuuka, the accident and emergency unit physician at Mulago said.

She explained that the unit receives over 140 victims of road accidents daily, which paralyses work in the ward.

Nakibuuka added that most of the cases they receive are victims of motorcycle accidents.
