‘Reduce charges’
KAMPALA - Financial institutions should do everything possible to moderate their charges, David Opiokello, the deputy governor of the Bank of Uganda, has advised. “Lack of action in moderating charges may evoke unpleasant consequences,” Opiokello said. He said financial innovations come along with risks, which must be properly managed to protect depositors’ funds. “All financial institutions must constantly review and enhance their risk management systems.”

Minister assures on oil

KAMPALA - Uganda will not be cheated through oil exploration contracts as media reports have claimed, the energy state minister, Kamanda Bataringaya, has said. He said fears that Uganda would get 30% and the foreigners 70% were not true. Bataringaya said this during an awards ceremony for business journalists at the Speke Resort Munyonyo. “I can assure you that position is wrong. There are many journalists here. Go and put the matters straight,” he said.
