Employers should comply with labour laws in order to provide a conducive working environment for improvement of productivity, the gender, labour and social development minister has said.

“There has been a small class of employers who flout the labour laws and interfere with the work of labour officers. I warn them that the law will be brought to bear,” Syda Bbumba said.

Bbumba said this at the employer of the year awards at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. She said employers should maintain business ethics by being accountable to their stakeholders, employees, the community and the Government.

“Employers and workers should work with the Government to enlighten all parties about unethical practices in their companies,” Bbumba said. She said good employers are not only interested in profitability and productivity but also employees’ rights.
