Cool down Tebyasa
I am perturbed with the conflicts in Masaka municipality, which some how look like personal fights. They are retarding development. After sacking the town clerk, the mayor, Tebyasa has now sacked his deputy. Such issues seriously affect the running of the municipality. Instead of spending time on development issues, the mayor and his councillors are engaged in squabbles. I am calling upon these local leaders to wake up and work. They should remember that their first year in office is coming to an end.

Solve Bushenyi issue
Should Bushenyi be split into several other districts? This is the question. I personally think that this debate has gone on for too long. My view is that the district should be split, especially Buhweju county because it is largely marginalised. I don’t agree with Local Government Minister Kahinda Otafiire, when he says that there is no need for splitting the district. Splitting it will bring services nearer to the people and increase development. I wish this is done quickly.

Distribute funds

News that local governments are going to receive at least sh20b as Graduated Tax compensation is very wonderful. Most local governments, especially LC3s were almost closing up because they did not have funds to operate after the scrapping of graduated tax. I call upon the Government to disburse these funds as quickly as possible so that LGs get on with their work.

Tired of squabbles
For one year, the reign of the LC5 boss of Kayunga district, Eng. Emmanuel Mulondo, has been dotted with in-fighting. If it is not about trying to censure the LC5 chairman, councillors are boycotting meetings because of certain allowances have not been paid. In the meantime, development is retarded. I call upon leaders to stop their personal squabbles and work for the good of the district.

Marital issues out!
Salaamu Musumba and Steven Mubiru are both tough candidates vying for the Kamuli LC5 seat. However, I am a bit disappointed with the way development issues are being replaced with petty domestic issues. Instead of asking Musumba about her development plans, they are in for marital issues. I think such questions are purely diversionary. Let us leave domestic issues out of these campaigns.
