GULU-The health ministry has distributed over 37,800 mosquito nets to children under five years and pregnant mothers in five sub-counties in Gulu and Amuru districts. The LC3 chairman of Bardege division in Gulu, Debob Ochan, hailed the ministry for the offer and appreciated the transparent manner in which the exercise was done. “All local leaders were involved and it was not a question of giving nets to relatives, in-laws and party members.” Ochan also warned recipients against selling the nets.

Aid midwives, says Orech

OYAM-The Government should equip traditional birth attendants with basic materials to execute their work effectively, the district health educator,John Bosco Orech, has suggested.
He on Tuesday said although the attendants conduct most of the deliveries, they lack gloves, cotton wool and weighing scales.
“They are playing a big role by assisting in the birth of a substantial portion of Uganda's newborns,” Orech said.
